One Group, Multiple Ventures: Why I Believe in Diversification

Why build businesses in different industries?

For me, diversification has developed naturally from recognizing opportunities.

One conversation may reveal an opportunity in trade. A problem in the property market may inspire a digital platform. Technology can support businesses in entirely different sectors.

Opportunities are often connected.

Through the Redwood Group of Companies, our interests now span real estate, property platforms, international trade, technology, consumer businesses and art.

I don’t believe diversification should mean pursuing every opportunity.

That creates distraction rather than growth.

There should be a reason behind every venture.

The opportunity should make sense, the right people should be available and there should be a realistic path toward creating value.

Different businesses can also strengthen one another.

Knowledge, technology, relationships and experience developed in one area can sometimes create opportunities elsewhere.

Ultimately, diversification is not about having the largest number of businesses.

It is about creating a portfolio capable of growing, adapting and discovering new possibilities.
